Oh, well.

Things are bound to become interesting. I almost wish I could go with the entourage myself.

Then, of course, I remember Oropherion's temper and I am very sorry indeed for those poor souls I am sending to the path of fury. If they do not encounter any foul beast 'twill be only their pride wounded, for a while.

I should not waste myself in fear and doubt. 'Tis a good team that Fate gathered together. And many other things require our full attention. However the Company is now out of my sight and my protection, their quest hanging in the worth of their hearts and the grace of the Powers, and other things must be seen to, in case we succeed.

Mayhap I should urge the group along. One never knows when a blizzard unleashes on the mountains, and they should seize the good weather while it lasts.

So, the young master turns to her for aid.

Interesting.

I am not a meddlesome person. That is Gandalf's role. I merely wish to know what the lady Alasisel  seeks in the dell. Surely a responsible ruler is entitled to look for his subjects safety.

Forced to, even.

I think my abrupt behavior might have frightened some.

Nevertheless, time  is pressing. Soon the path will be impossible to cross, and the snow as deadly as the ambushes of the orcs. I'd rather have them gone whilst the weather is not too harsh.

Then the complexities of diplomacy will be out of my hands for the moment, and I can focus my full attention in the fight against the Enemy. The Dunedain say that orcs are moving in our direction, and I do not think that may be a coincidence...

I must prepare a denfence. It is very likely we will meet the battle in our doorsteps.

It is time. Nay, it is past time. The hour grows late.

Forbidding as the lady may be at times, she is yet to offer bad counsel. I have sensed darkness too, and it weighs on me more and more.

I shall take Glorfindel aside and discuss the defences of the Dell once again. the men must sharpen their blades and once  more walk with it, for even if not the main target of the war, Sauron will have some of his minions to spare. And plenty of hate for those who deterred him in the past.

The power that holds these lands safe may be wielded but it is not truly reliable in the end. And I should not trust it, not even it, not even for defence. neither is it its purpose- it was forged to heal and to restore; to preserve and to bloom. Not to fight.

And I must see the party gone when the road is still safe. It may be many long years before I meet my friends again, but I would have them safe. For all his stubborness, Thranduil is a wise ruler. He has long kept the Shadow at bay by his will alone, and that of his men; and fighting side by side with mine again may well help healing a wound that never fully closed.

I would see the elven clans united again.

Eru grant it, I would see these lands in peace, ere we depart into the West.

I did suspect Erestor would freak out. Poor elf.

Now, if only I could be sure  Glorfindel will not jump at Thranduil's throat or be disagreeable, I could close the list for the travellers and turn my mind to the defences of Imladris.

There is a fine layer of snow covering the gardens of Imladris.
The Fellowship has left, and all our hopes with them, some weeks ago. I stay strong, for that is which my people need- nay, all people shall need all the stregth they can get.
But yet some semblance of normalcy must be kept, for panic is not going to help our predicament any.
Some there are who wish to jump headlong into danger. I wish they'd know better. And also some there are who'd wish to stall and reflect till the stars burn out.
I am well and trully arranged.
The time has come. In fact, I am long overdue. I need to care for the endless list of courtesy requirements and political dealings.
I sit on the bench near the courtyard with a sigh.
Thranduil will not be pleased. At all.
But mayhap... ?
I wonder.
